April 2, 2009 -
Like I said before - I am going backwards (sometimes) thru winter in Chicago and what I have learned. Today's topic is: Raging windy cold rainstorms. Please, give me snow anytime. Last nite all I had to do was walk two little blocks back home. Chicago is NOT about the snow and cold in winter. It is about those horribly strong winds (duh...the Windy City) combined with rain. Hell....I don't think an umbrella has yet to be invented for that. Just two blocks. The most miserable two blocks I have ever walked (ummm...except for those last two miles with Emory on the Appalachain Trail a few years back where I hiked 12 miles over stones, boulders, and rocks, and lost 4 toenails). Getting back to the wind in Chicago combined with the rain...one just has to lean into it, screw the umbrella, and count until one gets home and not run over by a taxi. Hardly need a shower the next day. Tonite, however, it was in the mid 40's, pleasant and I got to walk for blocks and blocks and blocks....and never even thought about getting a cab (I seriousl thought about it last nite for two blocks but I hung in there).
